Pattern Drop: Dandelion Drops Wall Hanging

Okay, so I have a thing for what I call the “dandelion stitch,”, if you haven’t noticed. First there was the Dandelion Dance Shawl (my most popular pattern!), then their was the Dandelion Dreams Baby Blanket and now I am pleased to introduce to you what is now the next pattern in what has become a dandelion stitch collection: The Dandelion Drops Wall Hanging!
I’m also especially excited about this one, as it is my first pattern released under my new FIBER & FOX brand!

Inspiration:
Besides my obsession with this stitch, this design was one of those birthed out of necessity rather than some deep meaning and inspiration. My daughter had a lot of bows. LIKE A LOT. I love supporting other maker mamas and handmade bow shops (turbans for tots is our fave!) and accessorizing her to perfectly match every outfit. But storing them was getting to be a bit of a situation. I had one crochet wall hanging which I loved displaying some one, but we “needed” another. And the Dandelion Drops was born!
The Yarn/Materials:
This pattern was designed with Wool Addicts Sunshine “50 Yellow” 100% cotton chainette yarn. I *believe* this colorway is unfortunately discontinued, but this pattern is perfect in ANY worsted weight/ category 4 yarn. I used about 208 yards for mine, fringe included, but yardage will vary based on how much/ how long fringe you make.
The pattern is a “gauge does not matter” sort of designs- so no tedious swatching! I used a J/6.0 mm crochet hook (*affiliate link) for mine, but you can definitely play around to get a yarn/hook combo you like. This also means, that while the measurements (approximately 15″ wide & 22.5″ at longest point, not including hanger or fringe) of the final item are for the worsted weight yarn I chose, you can actually make this pattern in ANY yarn weight or hook size you’d like. I’ve since made a tiny fingering weight version (using the same stitch counts and instructions, just with a smaller hook size) out of some scraps and it’s SO CUTE!
The only other material you’ll need for this one is a stick/branch or rod of some sort. I used a birch branch that was approximately 20″ long, 1.25″ wide, but you’ll see in the tester photos you can also use a dowel or other items which can be found in a craft store, if the woods are not accessible to you!
What’s Included:
With the PDF pattern you will get, obviously, the pattern in written format. It’s an advanced beginner level, written in standard US crochet terms. There are some decreases for the slanted shape, but other than that it’s very repetitive and easy to work up! Along with the written instructions there are lots of helpful photos, included a detailed step-by-step photo tutorial on how to work the dandelion stitch (my modified version of a daisy/star stitch). In addition to the photo tutorial, there is also a link to a video tutorial for the stitch! You can also access that stitch tutorial on my YouTube channel, if you want to just learn a fun new stitch!
The Testers:
The testers, as usual, brought me so much inspiration and I hope you’re super inspired by their versions too. It’s such an honor to be able to put my patterns in the hands of other creatives and see what they do with them!
Michelle of @michbella17 is a tester I have worked with many times, and as usual she did not disappoint! I love how she went for a neutral with the hanging, but made the fringe super fun. It makes an awesome background for her Disney pin collection! She also got really custom with her “branch”- when she couldn’t find one she liked, she got crafty and took a bamboo pole from her craft store and gave it a white wash with paint! I love the outcome!
I try to not pick favorites with testers and their projects, but holy moly, Haley of @haleyhandcrafted BLEW ME AWAY with this striped version. The angles! The colors! AHHH! Like, it was one of those “why did I not think of this” moments, with a tinge of jealousy. I totally want to make a rainbow striped version now, cause it’s SO GOOD with the stripes!
Jessica of @craftygalotte went a slightly different route with the stripes and I love it! This way would be super fun with a gradient cake, or even fading colors into each other! I also love that wild looking branch- so much extra character!
Harini of @a_crochet_machine when for a more subdued look with a navy and pastel combo. I’m obsessed with that extra long fringe- I need another one like that too! (Gah, Imma have to make so many now!)
Delilah of @delightfullystitched also when the right angled striped version, and again, SO SO GOOD. Something about those right angles is just the most visually pleasing thing ever. I am glad I went solid, cause with the bows on it it would have looked a little wild striped, but as a stand alone art piece I think the stripes are the way to go! But then again…
…Then there is this striking neutral version by Abbigail of @the_mountain_maker . I love the white on the white wall. More understated, but still so artful! I love that she thought to use copper piping instead of a branch, and then also incorporated the copper like beads into the fringe. And by the way, the diagonal fringe is phenomenal. Whhooopppps, now I need to make another, another one!
